The fog that sits on this coast all season finally quits, the afternoons run warm and clear, and September and October turn out to be the two best months of the year out here. The trails through the Point Reyes National Seashore are as good as they get. Tomales Bay goes flat and bright. Out at Tomales Point the tule elk are in rut into early October, and that alone is worth the drive. By November the light runs low and long, the beaches empty out, and the nights get properly dark.
